SolarAtlas Australia is an interactive visual analytics platform developed by the NEX.TLab and Visualisation Institute at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). The platform explores the remarkable growth of rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) systems across Australia by integrating solar installation data with a wide range of socio-demographic indicators. It enables users to examine how solar adoption varies across regions, communities and time.
Designed to support researchers, policymakers, industry and the broader public, SolarAtlas Australia provides an intuitive way to explore Australia's distributed energy transition. Users can compare solar uptake across local government areas and electorates, investigate neighbourhood effects, and examine relationships between solar adoption and demographic, economic and housing characteristics.
With Australia achieving the highest household rooftop solar PV adoption rate in the world, understanding where and why communities embrace solar energy has never been more important. SolarAtlas Australia aims to make these insights accessible through interactive visualisation, supporting evidence-based policy, research and public engagement while advancing discussions on sustainability, renewable energy and energy justice.
